when

by Marisca Pichette

i had a conversation

the other day or so—

with someone who i seldom

ever see alone.

he was calm, aloof, and staid

sitting very straight indeed.

a skinny sort of fellow,

rather bony at the knees.

we talked for just awhile,

as he had things to do

and i my own business

though i was loathe to move.

nevertheless i saw him

i doubt i will again—

as our paths are very different

until that moment
